My second brainstorming idea would be a documentary of a male bar servers/bartenders. I am currently a server at a bar and as a male you encounter much different situations than women. My documentary would consist of how the male server is perceived in a restaurant, troubles a male faces as a server and many more ideas. Being a male server is so much more difficult and you really have to learn how to read people in order to make good tips, I've learned this through experience. I know I am not the only male server who experiences what I do so I think it would be very interesting to reach out to other males who are servers and get their insight. In the film I would also address general of issues of serving, for both males and females, such as hourly wages (Avg. $2.13/hour not including tips) , tip out percentage and take home pay. It would probably be a sporadic and nonlinear film depending on how the server population responds to the questions at hand.
A new perspective on the service industry. Choosing a subject you're familiar with is a smart choice.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many ways to go with this I don't even know where to begin. But yes, serving would definitely be an interesting media subject/topic. It would be interesting to see how female compare to male servers. I would think they have their own different approach to customers.
